Reorienting Our Solar System

How Prioritizing Allah Leads to Softness, Ease, and Radical Tawakkul

We live in a time of immense stress, anxiety, and overwhelm. Many Muslims seek balance but struggle to find it. Why? Their lives revolve around something or someone other than Allah ﷻ. Just as the solar system would collapse if the sun were removed, our hearts fall into darkness when we don’t place Allah ﷻ at the center of our existence.

What Do You Know About the Sun?

Big. Bright. Powerful. Every living creature depends on it. The sun is a giant star, the source of warmth, light, and life on earth. Without it, everything would wither in darkness and cold.

Yet, despite how essential the sun is, that is pretty much the extent of most people’s knowledge of it. We rely on it daily, but beyond the basics, our knowledge is limited—and that limitation directly affects how much we can truly appreciate it.

Now, think about Allah ﷻ. He is the true source of life, the One who sustains everything. We worship Him, but how well do we really know Him? How much do we truly understand His attributes, His names, His wisdom?

You cannot deeply appreciate or prioritize someone you do not know.
The more we learn about Allah ﷻ, the more we naturally want to revolve our lives around Him, just as the earth orbits the sun.
The more we reflect on His mercy, wisdom, and power, the more our hearts soften toward His guidance.

Prioritizing Allah ﷻ begins with learning who it is we are prioritizing—because obedience without knowledge and understanding lacks depth, and worship without connection lacks love.

The Sun of Our Existence

Allah ﷻ is our sun. He is the source of our light, guidance, and sustenance. Just as the earth orbits the sun, we are meant to revolve around Him—His commands, His guidance, His remembrance. When we live in obedience to Allah ﷻ, we align ourselves with the natural order of creation, and in doing so, we find peace and ease. But when we place something else at the center—money, success, relationships—we find ourselves in perpetual instability. These things are like planets in our solar system—important, but secondary.

The moon, which orbits the earth, can be seen as a reflection of our obligations and acts of worship. Just as the moon does not shine on its own but reflects the sun’s light, our obligations take meaning and purpose when they are rooted in Allah’s presence in our lives. When He is at the center, our worship follows naturally, just as the moon follows its path around the earth.

"Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth..."

How Prioritizing Allah ﷻ Leads to Ease

Many people resist submission because they believe it will make life harder or take away the joy of life. They fear restrictions, loss, and struggle. But Allah ﷻ tells us clearly:

“Allah intends ease for you and does not intend hardship for you.”

(2:185)

A heart that prioritizes Allah ﷻ is a heart that experiences softness and ease, no matter what circumstances arise, because radical tawakkul—the deep, unwavering trust and reliance on Allah ﷻ—releases the burden of control. It allows you to stop fighting against life and instead surrender to its divine flow, giving you the freedom to be who you were created to be—how you were created to be.

When we align ourselves with Allah ﷻ, we no longer carry unnecessary stress:

  • We stop fearing loss because we know everything is from Allah ﷻ, and whatever is taken is either a test or a purification.

  • We stop feeling like we have to control everything because we recognize that control belongs to Allah ﷻ alone.

  • We stop resisting life’s hardships because we understand that this life is designed as a test, not a paradise.

Allah ﷻ reminds us:

“And We did not create the heavens and earth and everything between them in play.”

(44:38)

"Do people think that they will be left alone because they say: ‘We believe,’ and will not be tested?”

(29:2)

Knowing the nature of this life changes how we engage with it. It becomes a means, not an end. We learn to take this life seriously because it impacts our relationship with Allah ﷻ and our eternal outcome. But we also learn not to take it personally—because every test is part of a larger reality, and we are not the only ones being tested.

The Consequence of Disconnection

What happens when we don’t prioritize Allah ﷻ? When we remove Him from the center and orbit something else?

Just as a planet without a sun would freeze in darkness, a heart without Allah ﷻ hardens. Allah ﷻ warns us:

“Then, after that, your hearts were hardened and became like stones or even harder.”

(2:74)

“And do not be like those who forgot Allah, so He made them forget themselves.”

(59:19)

We see this hardness in our own lives. When we neglect Allah ﷻ, we feel lost, unfulfilled, and constantly seeking something to fill the void. Even when we achieve worldly success, it never feels like enough. Just like people feel drained and depressed when the sun disappears for long stretches, our souls become weary and deprived when we don’t engage with the One who gives us life.

Declutter Your Orbit: Remove Debris

To truly prioritize Allah ﷻ, you have to remove distractions. Just as planets follow a steady orbit around the sun without being thrown off course by debris, we must remove anything that pulls us away from Allah ﷻ. Anything that threatens to throw us off course.

  • Monitor your thoughts and actions – What occupies your mind most? Where does your time, energy, and focus go? Is your life structured around worship, or is worship squeezed into what’s left over?

  • Simplify life – The more unnecessary attachments we have, the more distractions we introduce. The dunya constantly demands our attention, but a heart filled with Allah ﷻ has no room for excess noise.

  • Remove your codependency on the dunya – Many people rely on this world to give them what only Allah ﷻ can. They seek comfort in wealth, security in relationships, and validation from others, only to feel empty when these things fail them.

Radical tawakkul means releasing this dependence by creating a healthy relationship with the dunya, removing unnecessary heart attachments, and turning fully to Allah ﷻ for our needs.

“Or ˹is it because˺ they possess the treasuries of the mercy of your Lord—the Almighty, the Giver ˹of all bounties˺.”

(38:9)

Your Priority is Singular

The word "priorities" is misleading—because in reality, priority is singular. We are not meant to have multiple “priorities” competing for our attention.

Worshipping Allah ﷻ is our one and only priority. Everything else—our families, our work, our responsibilities—falls into place when we frame them as part of that worship.

“And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.”

(51:56)

When you remove distractions, simplify your life, and reorient yourself around Allah ﷻ, you will find the ease and tranquility that so many people spend their lives searching for.

Alhamdulillah, Allah’s guidance does not come with extremes—there’s no such thing as too much reliance on Allah ﷻ. We don’t risk “spiritual sunburn” from leaning too heavily on His mercy, trusting Him too much, or obeying Him too sincerely. The more we turn to Him in humility, repentance, and gratitude, the more we thrive. His guidance is perfect, limitless, and always available to illuminate our hearts.

The sun never changes—whether we turn toward it or not, it remains the same. But our lives change when we embrace its light. The same is true of Allah ﷻ.

He is constant.

He is Light and is more than worthy of being number one in our lives.

May Allah ﷻ grant you tawfiq in your pursuit to reorient your life, fill your heart with His light, and guide you to the ease and softness that come with radical tawakkul.
